The Swantown Inn is a small Mom and Pop, family owned business. In this series of blog posts we want to highlight other small businesses. Some we frequent often, some less so, but if there is a choice between a chain and a local option we almost always go for the local.
The Bus Stop featuring the Greyhound Grill
We have been in Olympia for over 20 years now and the old Greyhound Station, historical as it is, has sat empty for most of that time. So when it was taken over by the owners of The Bus Stop, and reimagined as a bar featuring food trucks, it was exciting to see life reenter this building and area of downtown. They have done an amazing job fitting out a full bar, with cozy booths (we love booths) and taking advantage of the old bus area to house some undercover outdoor seating and a home for food trucks.
Each time we have gone our party has been too large for the booths, so we have sat in the small function room up the back. The service has been fantastic and more importantly the food has been too. It is an interesting setup, with orders for drinks from the bar, plus the limited menu of pizzas and small bites directly from the Bus Stop. Then to compliment and expand the options the Greyhound Grill food truck has QR codes on the table. You scan those codes for their menu and order online. Their food is delivered from the fruck parked outside. I believe the hope if they will add other food trucks or totate them through in the busier summer months.
The burgers and sandwiches from the Greyhound Grill have been really great. Nice fries too! The flatbread pizzas from the Bus Stop are equally delicious. The alcoholic drinks we have ordered from the bar are also really interesting, with good flavor profiles.
The Bus Stop is a great place to meet up with friends or family. It should be a good place to grab a bite to eat before Music in the Park (which is across the road in Sylvester Park). You can check out their web site for their Facebook page for menus. They even host an occasional comedy show, just like us!
