The Swantown Inn is a small Mom and Pop, family owned business. In this series of blog posts we want to highlight other small businesses. Some we frequent often, some less so, but if there is a choice between a chain and a local option we almost always go for the local.
When Gluten Free is done perfectly, you will never know!
This brunch style resturant has garnered attention for its unique completely gluten-free menu and cozy dining experience. The Leaning Maple is in downtown Olympia, known for its focus on waffles, offering both sweet and savory varieties. Do not let the gluten-free menu put you off! You would never know the waffles are indeed 100% Gluten-Free. They also offer espresso style coffee and a selction of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.
The friendly and attentive service, contributing to a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience. They are able to host larger groups but also provide a warm PNW vibe that we would describe as cozy and comfortable. The space is warm and welcoming. It did feel a little weird that we had to wait to be seated, when there seemed to be plenty of staff to do so. Staff were friendly but very muted. Maybe that’s just the vibe they are going for.
They also offer locally sourced PNW type merchandise, giving you a non-food reason to visit as well.
When we visited Nathan had a really delicious savory waffle. At first he thought a side of syrup would be great, but ended up not missing it and thoroughly enjoyed the poached eggs and roasted tomatoes on top. Casey had a waffle featuring salmon. Drinks are interesting, ranging from espresso to milk shakes, with both alocoholic and non-alcohlic cocktail options.
We realize you probably aren’t running out for brunch after having breakfast with us, however for a brunchy style lunch this really is a great option. If you are meeting friends or family there is plenty of room. They even offer a mimosa flight, making that brunch vibe complete.
